Gilbert, Arizona is home to a powerful 9/11 Memorial that pays tribute to the lives lost and recognizes the strength of our nation during the worst act of terrorism on American soil on September 11th, 2001.

A beam that once held up the North Tower of the World Trade Center now rests at Gilbert's 9/11 Memorial Plaza. It gives all a place to pause, touch, and remember; to feel united again and thankful for our fragile liberty.

This outdoor memorial is open to the public any time, day or night.

You're invited to the Town of Gilbert 9/11 Memorial Ceremony beginning at 6:30 PM on Monday, September 11th.

Join Gilbert Fire and Rescue and the Gilbert Police Department as we remember the lives lost and pay tribute to the brave first responders who answered the call on September 11th, 2001.

The ceremony will be followed by a Tribute in Light from 7:30-9:30 PM. Two beams of light will be projected into the sky to symbolize the World Trade Center's twin towers.

Down the road at the Water Tower Plaza, Gilbert's iconic water tower will be illuminated red, white and blue as we join the nation in remembrance.

Former Gilbert Fire Chiefs Collin DeWitt and Jim Jobusch reflect upon their journey to bring the 9/11 Memorial to Gilbert.

Gilbert's 9/11 Memorial was unveiled at the town's 10th anniversary ceremony in 2011. The memorial features an 8-foot steel girder beam that once held up the North Tower of the World Trade Center.

The beam rests on a pentagon shape and is angled so that even small children can reach up and touch a piece of history. Four granite walls surround the beam, featuring the names of those we lost on September 11th, 2001. There are also benches where the community can sit and reflect. The bricks on the ground near the memorial are filled with messages from generous donors who helped bring the memorial to Gilbert.

Former Gilbert Fire Chief Collin DeWitt and then-Assistant Fire Chief Jim Jobusch drove to New York City to collect the beam for Gilbert's 9/11 Memorial in 2011.

The pair gave it an honorable ride home with the same respect paid to a fallen soldier. The beam traveled throughout Gilbert, allowing residents to see it, touch it and learn about it as it made its way home. Gilbert's memorial was unveiled at the town's 10th anniversary ceremony.

Generous donors provided the design, supplies and more than $74,000 to create this special 9/11 tribute in our community.
