Vision Quest began in 1986 as a small 900 square foot metaphysical bookstore in Canoga Park, CA. It was founded by psychic, Apryl Douglas. In 1987 she began an ambitious business venture to open a second store in Simi Valley, CA.

By 1989 she opened a third store in Woodland Hills where it operated as the official bookstore of the L.A. Health & Life Expo. In an effort to reduce the ever-growing complexities of running 3 stores, in 1990 Apryl consolidated all three stores into one large store (4,000 sq. ft.) in a prominent location in Canoga Park. The store was enormously successful and continued to grow over the next 4 years.

In January of 1994, the store was only 3 miles from the epicenter of the Northridge earthquake. There was great damage to the building as well as severe losses in books and merchandise. With the incredible support of family and friends, she managed to bring the store back to its former glory, however, now with a greater incentive to relocate the store to an earthquake-free location.

In June of 1995, she moved to Phoenix, AZ. Apryl reopened Vision Quest in the neighboring town of Scottsdale where it continued to thrive.
