4worldlovers: Haku-un-ji Zen Center offers traditional Rinzai Zen Buddhist meditation and practice for beginners as well as experienced meditators. Our primary practice is zazen, or seated meditation. The form combines compassion and structure to help us focus and experience our heart and the world together. We also offer seated meditation(zazen), walking meditation (kinhin), retreats (zazenkais), chanting, book discussion groups and multi-day retreats with visiting teachers.

I’m open to suggestions on how to be a good uncle.

I have not read or found any books on what it means to be a passable uncle, let alone found a checklist that details what’s required of being a good uncle. There aren’t any flowcharts to follow and few standardized practices. Being a parents for the first time isn’t exactly easy either, as I have discovered over the last two years, but at the very least there are countless books, online forums and strangers coming out of the woodwork to give me unsolicited advice on everything from changing diapers with minimum splash back to finding the nebulous line between bribery and motivation when trying to ween child off of a diet that consists most of oranges. In other words, while being a father isn’t necessarily easy, it’s at least a somewhat defined role in which I can make, hopefully positive, decisions.

Your support and contributions will enable us to realize our aspirations of physical and spiritual liberation of our dear animal friends as well as improve the conditions for our non-human animal residents' home here at our sanctuary. It is our aspiration to grow our small temple and sanctuary to a larger facility that could be of great benefit to all non-human animals and human animals.
