Ward Traditional Academy is a K-8 neighborhood choice school in the Tempe Elementary School District with approximately 450 students. The focus is on the blending of traditional instruction, educational research, and high student achievement through a positive climate and high academic expectations. Our students receive a comprehensive education that focuses on critical thinking, communication, and collaboration. Our emphasis on academics prepares students to excel in their high school and college career. Students consistently excel to the highest levels on the Arizona State Standards of Excellence. Ward is a one-to-one technology school. Students are issued an iPad or a Chromebook for use throughout the day.


Our staff consists of adults who care about their students and are determined to be there for them throughout their experiences at our school. The teachers are highly qualified and continue in their own learning for the benefit of students. Teachers are trained and certified in the Spalding method of instruction and utilize direct instruction and best practices to deliver instruction. We have a PACE (Promoting Actualization through Creativity and Excellence) program that serves the needs of our gifted students. Enrichment activities from after school clubs to athletics also enhance the overall school experience.


Our PTA is a key organization helping to support many of the experiences of Ward Traditional Academy. The relationships that are developed through a small campus and shared belief of Warrior PRIDE will carry them through their primary school years and the rest of their life.
