4worldlovers: The Club was established in 1963 as the first Branch of Boys & Girls Clubs of the East Valley-Metro Phoenix. We are now part of the Westside Community Center, which opened its doors on September 4, 2001, in the same location as the original Club in Jaycee Park. Along with 11 other partners in the building, we work together to address the needs of the community and residents of all ages. The Ladmo Branch, Tempe assumed responsibility for the entire facility on July 01, 2003, in a visionary partnership with the City of Tempe. The community we serve in west Tempe is unique. We have an extremely mobile population and an ethnically diverse membership--the most diverse of any club in the East Valley. We serve youth and teens and support programming for preschoolers, adults, and seniors. Additionally, the city of Tempe, in partnership with the Ladmo Branch - Tempe of Boys & Girls Clubs of the East Valley-Metro Phoenix, was named one of 100 Best Communities for Young People, by America’s Promise to Youth (2005-2006). In 2005 we were a designated “SAFE PLACE” for kids on behalf of Homebase Youth Services. And, lastly, the Ladmo Branch is home to the 2002-03 National Youth of the Year, Donald Smith and 2010 National Youth of the Year, Mona Dixon.

Hello Community Members - I hope you are all doing your best to stay cool during these hot summer weeks! I have a couple important issues to share this month. Read Ben's report on the Presidents Report page.

The blistering heat continues and we see the effect on our trees and shrubs in the community. This summer has been very hard on all our vegetation. Please be aware that we are continuing to add amendments to the soil and increasing irrigation in hopes of saving the trees that are most distressed. You'll find a list of upcoming events and Christine's Community Manager Report on the Community Manager report.

Please be mindful of the no-burn days that Maricopa County Air Quality Department issues. This means no outdoor fire pits and no fireplace fires. Please check Maricopa County Air Quality Department for up-to-date no-burn information.

When you walk your dog, please be courteous and pick up after your dog. The Lakes has many doggy stations with bags, please use them.

Please be respectful of your Lakes neighbors and don't throw garbage over walls or into the lake.

Homeowners, please remind your landscapers not to throw bush and tree trimmings, leaves or grass clippings into the lake.

Don't forget, starting in March you need to prep your lawn for the warm growing season. Lawns in the Lakes must be green and lush from April through September.

The city bulk trash and green pickups are scheduled for the second Monday of every other month. Please put out your bulk trash items and yard trimmings no earlier than the Thursday before the Monday pickups. The dates are included on the Lakes Calendar.
